What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files that are placed by your browser on your device in order to store certain information. Using the information that is stored and returned, a website can recognize that you have previously accessed and visited it using the browser on your end device. We use this information to arrange and display the website optimally in accordance with your preferences. Within this process, only the cookie itself is identified on your device. Personal data is only stored following your express consent or where this is absolutely necessary to enable use the service provided by us and accessed by you.

What do we use them for?

Cookies are files that are used to make your browsing experience on a website more convenient. There are different types of cookies for different purposes:

Marketing cookies

Marketing cookies come from external advertising companies ("third-party cookies") and are used to collect information about the websites visited by the user. The purpose of this is to create and display target group-oriented content and advertising for the user.

Social Plugins

Social cookies are used to enable sharing on social networking sites or embedding content on social media.

Statistical Cookies

Statistical cookies collect aggregated information about how our website is used. The purpose of this is to improve its attractiveness, content and functionality. These cookies help us to determine whether, how often and for how long particular sub-pages of our website are accessed and which content users are particularly interested in. Search terms, country, region and (where applicable) the city from which the website is accessed are also recorded, as is the proportion of mobile devices that are used to access the website. We use this information to compile statistical reports that help us tailor the content of our website to your needs and optimize our offer.

Videos

Video sharing services help to add rich media on the site and increase its visibility.

What should you do if you do not want our site to save cookies on your browser?

You can accept, reject or modify the settings for each type of cookie at any time by clicking on the "Cookie settings" link and going to the menu.

You can also set your own browser to use cookies. You can find information on setting cookies in the "Help" section of your browser. If you disable cookies on this site, essential cookies will not be used, so for example, login functions will not work properly.

Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics to measure the readership of our articles and pages. Visitors' IP addresses are anonymised to ensure that no individual visitor can be identified. The Analytics IP anonymisation feature resets the last octet of IPv4 users' IP addresses and the last 80 bits of IPv6 addresses in memory shortly after the address is sent to Google Analytics. This way, the system never writes to disk the full IP address, which could more accurately identify the visitor. For example, 192.168.1.123 is changed to 192.168.1.0. If you do not accept the use of statistical cookies, each page view is measured as a separate unique visit.
